Vanitas: Life versus death. Life in the shadow of death, etc.

This is what our teacher told us. She showed us paintings of fruit so succulent, but with bugs crawling on them to remind us that they would rot soon. She showed us pictures of dying flowers and a skull in a pile of jewels. It was great. Then she arranged a vase of dying flowers, a plastic skull, silver beads, a glass vase, a watch, and some sort of cabbage thing and made us draw it.

Despite the fact that I really got tired of this after a while, I really enjoy the results.

The skill was a teeny little plastic thing, so I couldn't have made it bigger. ^^'

Good concept, and good drawing. I like the way it tools so intense and dark, similar to the concept... :) I draw in pencil too, but not as dark as this particular piece.

Nah, it's charcoal. That's why it came out so dark. I actually made it lighter but my teacher said "No! I want to see the shadows and the lights, put more into the shadow!" So eventually everything ended up dark. But it worked, so I guess she was right.

Oooh, well it looks very nice. I hate it when teachers tell you to do something to your drawing and youre sort of mumbling and grumbling that it isnt gonna look good, then it ends up looking great, makes you feel kinda dumb. :)
